2012 is almost here, and it's time to celebrate!  I want to decorate with this adorable "Auld Lang Syne" garland, wear this lovely beaded frock, and spend the evening at this disco ball-decor party.

Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of the amazing Estée Lauder, is another one of my style icons.  She is a cosmetics executive for the family business and is now preparing to launch her own company in fall 2012.  She has a natural, casual, yet sophisticated style that is evident through her fashion and decorating choices. Her homes have been featured in Elle Decor, Vogue Living, and Harper's Bazaar to name a few.  I'm convinced that to live in any of her homes (in Manhattan, the Hampton's, or Aspen- I'm not picky) would be heaven.

Aerin Lauder is definitely someone who is living the good life.

wishlist wednesday | december 28

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

welp it's the last wishlist wednesday of 2011! Enjoy!

1. No New Year's Eve celebration is complete without a party hat or tiara to top it off.  Get one here at Target or any party supply store.
2. New year means a new calendar! This print by Michelle Armas would look gorgeous hanging on any wall all year round.
3. Seriously obsessed with these Marc Jacobs ear buds. So cute!
4. I wish I wish I wish I had this Suzanne Kasler jaguar rug in my house.
5. Clutches will always be my favorite, but I like carrying larger purses like this flourescent trim bag from topshop for work or running errands.

Hope you're enjoying the last Wednesday of the year!

cheers,
Ellie

2011 saw a lot of wonderful and inspiring trends.  Here is a little round-up of a few of my favorites:

1. chevron
Chevron has been around for a while but it became especially popular this year.  I personally became obsessed with it, and have used it at any appropriate opportunity.
1 // 2

2. elbow patches
Elbow patches were used a ton during this past fall, and I loved it. They're extremely preppy, and although they were trendy this year, they're classic enough to stay in style year after year.
1 // 2

3. celebs
The last Harry Potter movie came out this year (tear), and I love this photo of Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe (Hermione and Harry).  This also seemed to be the year of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who both have been as gorgeous and inspiring as ever.
1 // 2

4. polka dots
Polka dots were another popular pattern this year, and like chevron, they've been around for a while and they'll continue to be one of my favorites.

Cheers to 2011 and all of the wonderful ideas, inspiration, and blessings it had to offer us.

Cheers,
Ellie

december matchbook girl

Saturday, December 24, 2011

The Matchbook Girl list is always one of my favorite parts of the monthly Matchbook Mag, so I thought I would pick a few of my faves from December's list.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

The Matchbook Girl...
1. ...welcomes her guests with hot toddies.

Hot Toddies are a lovely warm beverage perfect to serve at any winter gathering. Check out a recipe for them here.
2. ...accessorizes with tartan throws and pillows.
Tartan throws and pillows are a great way to give a space that lodge-y, cabin feeling, which I love, and this little moose guy does it right.
3. ...smooches a handsome stranger under the mistletoe.
This pic with the lovely snow and adorable red car might not have mistletoe, but it is too cute.

I hope everyone is able to spend some time with their family and friends this weekend! Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Cheers,
Ellie

Sarah Vickers is one of my style icons because of her unfailingly classic and preppy style. She is the girlfriend and business partner of Kiel James Patrick, New England designer and creator of all things prep.  According to a recent interview in Matchbook Mag, Sarah claims that her historic style icons include ad models for Life magazine in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It's clear when looking through photos of her that she could never be out of style because of her timeless fashion choices. She has a classic beauty about her and the fact that she has a pretty good-looking boyfriend doesn't hurt either!

1. 2. 3. 4.
By using a mixture of vintage knits, classic colors and patterns, and well-made pieces, Sarah Vickers does New England prep style right.

3 days till Christmas! Here's this week's list in case you need any last minute gift ideas for me... ha.

1. These Cheers! coasters are adorable and would be a great addition to any coffee table.
2. These gold polka dot tumblers from Bed Bath & Beyond are too cute. I want them. Now.
3. Leigh Viner is a truly amazing artist, and I would love to have one of her pieces in my home. This Abstractions Aside print is available over at her etsy shop.
4. Literally OBSESSED with this Tory Burch Chevron Throw.  It only runs around $300, so I think I'll buy 3. Hey, this is a wishlist after all.
5. I recently discovered the book Gridiron Belles: A Guide to Saturdays in Dixie over on the Back Down South blog. It's the perfect Southern girl's guide to football and all things Southern.

Ellie

cheers to... christmas trees

Friday, December 16, 2011

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Actually, it began to look a lot like Christmas a couple weeks ago but now that the season is in full swing I thought I would post some lovely Christmas trees.... I hope everyone has been having a wonderful time preparing for this holiday and is wrapping up (heh heh) all of their shopping and decorating as we head into the last week before Christmas.

1, 2, 3, 4
Here is something I wish were hanging on my tree: some of the ultra-preppy bracelets made by Kiel James Patrick (below)... and by hanging on my tree I mean hanging on my wrist.  I adore all things prep, and KJP is exactly that.  Stay tuned next week for a post about Sarah Vickers, girlfriend of Kiel James Patrick and one of my style icons.  Check out KJP's website to buy some of their preppy goods or take a look at their tumblr for some truly prep inspiration.

Michelle Adams is someone I greatly look up to as an interior designer because of her impeccable style and taste.  She pretty much has my dream job as co-editor of Lonny magazine, and owns the adorable and environmentally friendly fabric company Rubie Green. She is also a former editor for domino magazine, may it rest in peace. I'm extremely inspired by any of her interior design work as well as the interiors of her own apartment. I'm also pretty sure I could use any and every fabric from Rubie Green in every room of the house because I love it so much. She describes her style as "equal-parts mixture of delicate and bold."  Everything she does is so unique and polished, yet personal.

Michelle Adams is definitely someone to look to when gaining inspiration for interior design in your personal life.

Happy Wednesday! Here's this weeks list!

1.  As shown in my last post, I'm obsessed with chunky sweaters, and this one from Urban Outfitters has an adorable pattern that can be worn many different ways.
 2.  This paper from Paper Source has an amazingly beautiful pattern, and I'm thinking it would look fabulous as framed art.
3.  I had already been thinking of getting the Urban Decay Naked palette, but they've just recently come out with the Naked 2 palette and I am in love.
4.  I recently discovered Suzy Jack and their adorable office supplies through One Fine Day.  These magnetic clips are adorable and would be perfect to use at my office at work.
5.  Anthropologie + Chevron picture frame. That's all.

prairie hive

Monday, December 12, 2011

I absolutely love online design magazines, and I think I've found one of my new favorites.  Prairie Hive is a collaboration of designers, photographers, writers, and crafty creative types based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Not only does this magazine offer great design and style, it's based out of my current town of Tulsa which just gives me more reasons to love it.  Check out this gem asap at http://www.prairiehive.com.

for like ever

Sunday, December 11, 2011

I recently read an article about this 'For Like Ever' print in the online magazine, Co-Lab.  It was created by a design student (now designer for Super Rural) and is featured in several lovely interiors.  I have decided this will be my next purchase for my home and I can't wait to put it in an amazing frame.  It is available from Super Rural here.

Happy Wishlist Wednesday! Here's what I'm loving this week!

1.  This Bubbly On Your Budget book written by Marjorie Hillis and originally published in 1937 is available from Modcloth and is the perfect book to help with with my budgeting New Years resolutions.
2. I adore this 'I Love You More Than College Football Saturday' print made by HopSkipJumpPaper on Etsy.  I'm so sad that college football is almost over for the year, but this print will help hold me over until I get to cheer on the OSU Cowboys again.
3. I'm majorly crushing on all three of these nail polish colors from Butter London because they are absolutely perfect for this time of year.
4. I'm in desperate need of a new keychain, and this Coach leather champagne bottle keyring is the perfect way for my keys to ring in the new year.
5. Cold weather has officially arrived and I'm just waiting for one of Oklahoma's random snow storms, and these BDG Winter Lace-Up Boots from Urban Outfitters would be ideal.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday!

Ellie

beautiful bookcases

Sunday, November 27, 2011

This Thanksgiving as I was reluctantly cleaning out my closet at home, sorting through high school and college memorabilia, I realized that I have no where to display any of my books or photos in my new house.  A new bookshelf would be the perfect solution for me.  Bookshelves can be a great addition to any room, and with the right accessories, they can be extremely personal and unique.  Here are some bookshelves that really inspire me:

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a wonderful day of overeating with their family and friends! This year I am especially thankful for my job, as well as the countless other blessings I have in my life.

Or, in the words of How I Met Your Mother (love that show), Happy Slapsgiving!

wishlist wednesday | november twenty-third, 2011

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

It's wishlist wednesday! but more importantly, it's the day before Thanksgiving!!!

1. I saw these Anthropologie Bundled Up Critter Candles the other day on Dallas Shaw's blog and I am seriously considering purchasing one of these cuties for my office or bedroom.
2. 100 Years of Fashion Illustration by Cally Blackman is a great collection of inspiring fashion illustrations that would be a great addition to any coffee table book collection.
3. I love these Kate Spade bourgeois bow stud earrings mainly because I love the subtlety of stud earrings, but I would wear them every day of December.
4. I'm in the process of building up my collection of Christmas decorations, and this Eiffel Tower tree topper from Pottery Barn is adorable.  It might be a little bit trendy to use every single year, but it would make for a very chic Christmas tree.
5. I would love to carry this Ugg Sparkle Clutch to any Christmas or New Year's party this holiday season.

I hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday and a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!
Cheers,
Ellie

wedding drawing

Monday, November 21, 2011

I recently did an illustration for a friend to give as a wedding gift.  The illustration was for a couple named James and Lee to have in their house.  James and Lee were married this past July and as an artsy couple, they asked for art as gifts at their late reception.  I have done these sort of pen + ink "doodle" drawings for several of my close friends, but I had never done one for something like a wedding gift.  I really enjoyed creating it, and here's what I came up with!

This is the drawing before I added color.

during the process of adding color....

 The finished product!

I mailed the piece to my friend who had it framed before giving it as a gift.  I'll post a picture of the finished framed product as soon as I can.

Anyway, I just wanted to give a little peek on something that I really enjoy doing.  If you are interested in having me do something like this for you, don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers,
Ellie

beautiful kitchens

Monday, November 14, 2011

A beautiful kitchen is a beautiful thing.  A lot of time can be spent in the kitchen, so why shouldn't it be as beautiful as a living room or a bedroom?  Take a look at a few of these lovely cooking/eating spaces:

source | source
The lighting in both of these spaces is really phenomenal.  Both the chandelier and the lantern pendant serve as great focal points.  Also, the tables that work as islands and eating areas are great, as well as the glass cabinets.
source
This kitchen is very clean and simple, but the beautiful chandelier, rug, and other small accents such as the robins-egg-blue door make it a great space.

source
The continual use of grey throughout this kitchen helps to tie this somewhat large space together while the white accents bring it to life.

source
These yellow cabinets are absolutely one of a kind, and really make this kitchen unique.  The black accents enrich the color while the wood island and the barn-style pendant lights create a farmhouse feel.

source
I love the two separate islands that help to tie this large kitchen together.  The granite counter tops + the chopping block island are absolutely to die for.  I also love the lighting and the fact that the kitchen merges into a living area.

cheers to.... classic movies.

Friday, November 11, 2011

One of my favorite things to do on a relaxing weekend is curl up on the couch and watch some of my favorite classic movies.  Here are a few of the best:

source
When Harry Met Sally is seriously my all time favorite movie... really, anything with Meg Ryan (circa Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail) in it I love.

source
Dazed and Confused is a great movie to watch with friends.. it's hilarious and I love the 60s/70s styles that the girls in it wear.

source
Grease is and always will be a classic.  Oh Sandy.

source
Julia Roberts + Richard Gere = Pretty Woman = Perfection.

source
Love love love Dirty Dancing.  Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Happy Veteran's Day! Hope you all have a great weekend.
cheers,
Ellie
