I did a similar post last year about the trends of 2011, so I thought it would be fun look back at what was popular in 2012. Keep in mind that some of the things on this list are not exclusive to 2012, but I felt like they all were notably popular this year.

1. Dark walls // Whether it was an accent wall, or an entire dark-hued room, wall colors such as charcoal, navy, and even black were popping up everywhere. I posted about this dark-wall trend earlier this year, and I love the level of interest and sophistication it can bring to a room.

2. GIRLS // The show about twenty-something girls living in NYC premiered this year on HBO and quickly became one of my favorites. Lena Dunham, who was recently named Time's Coolest Person of 2012, writes and stars in this hilarious show, which I happen to find extremely relatable and a realistic look inside the lives of GIRLS.

3. Jennifer Lawrence // My favorite celebrity of the year has to be Jennifer Lawrence. Not only is she an amazing actress (Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook), but she has amazing style on and off the red carpet. To top it all of she's gorgeous and, as far as I can tell, very down to earth.

4. Monograms // I know, I know - monograms are such a classic and can hardly be considered a trend, but I felt like they were more popular than usual this year, and I was all about them. Not only do they personalize an item, but they have a way of adding style and class to anything. Pillows, trays, purses - they all need a monogram.

5. Peplum //  One of my favorite fashion trends this year was peplum. I love the feminine silhouette it creates when it's added to any outfit. Peplum is also very flattering, and it can dress up something casual or take something more dressy to the next level.

6. Top knots // Although I myself did not sport the top knot very much this year (it looks weird with my bangs), it was a very popular hairstyle. I think it's such a cute way to add a little extra something to a look.

4. This vintage-y Icicle Tinsel Set from Terrain reminds me of my childhood and is perfect for when you're feeling nostalgic whilst trimming the tree.

2. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love scarves. This two-tone waffle cowlneck scarf from Gap is all warm and fuzzy and I like it.
3. You can't go wrong with a pretty design and a holiday scent, and you certainly can't go wrong with a diptyque candle.
4. Is there anything more glorious than pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving? IS THERE? nope.

Thanksgiving is this week and I couldn't be more excited! Looking forward to some time spent with family and some amazing food. My family usually keeps it pretty simple decor-wise for this holiday - which I love - but I also really like these beautifully styled tablescapes. Obviously the most important part of Thanksgiving is spending time with those you love and being thankful for all that you have, but why not do it while sitting at a pretty table?

I've been really loving the idea of painting my walls a dark, dramatic color lately. I know it may seem like dark walls would overpower a room, but when done correctly I think it looks extremely chic and sophisticated. By adding things like bright white draperies and furniture, or even using the dark wall as a gallery wall, black or charcoal could be an unexpected, yet amazing paint color.

I've admired the amazing style of Russian style editor Miroslava Duma for a while now, and I can't seem to get enough of her unique yet sophisticated fashion choices. She is often recognized for her street style during New York and Milan's fashion weeks, and it's hard not to notice her even with her pint-sized stature. She has a way of making high fashion looks seem relatable, and trends that seem out of reach for everyday style become possible when you see how she wears them. 1. PAPERFASHION is one of my very favorite fashion illustrators, and I've been contemplating on getting a print of hers for a while now.. thinking I might need this 'in my closet' watercolor.
2. Now that the weather is finally getting cooler, this Patagonia Retro-X Vest is necessary for running errands and, of course, tailgating.
3. One of my favorite bloggers, Habitually Chic aka Heather Clawson,  just released her first book, Creativity at Work -- perfect addition to the coffee table stack.
4. Needing a new pair of tennis shoes, can't go wrong with vintage New-B's.
5. Handing out these bad boys to some lucky trick-or-treaters tonight.

GUESS WHAT PEOPLE. 1 year ago to this day I wrote my first ever blog post! It is my bloggie birthday and I couldn't be more thrilled. Cheers to the Good Life has been such an unexpected and amazing learning experience and I've loved every minute of it. So let's celebrate this blessed event with - what else? - a Wishlist Wednesday! 1. Zara Home is finally available to the US on their new online shop and I am loving this Savona Bath Mat from their Kids collection. Sadly it's already sold out, but I'm hoping they restock soon!
2. Wishing I could cozy up by a campfire with this Alapaca Plaid Blanket from Land's End - perfect for the season.
3. Loving this Boo Flags card from one of my favorite paperies, Sugar Paper + how adorable is the gingham interior of the envelope?
4. so... I'm a nerd and I love the Lord of the Rings and I'm really excited for the new Hobbit movie to come out in December and I really want this cute little pocket edition of the book from Urban Outfitters and I don't care who knows it.

Today is the day! I'm finally starting a new column! I know you're all thrilled. It's called Room Pick and I'm hoping it will help myself and others to create personal and unique spaces inspired by other beautiful interiors. Every week or so I'm going to take an image of a beautiful room or space and find several pieces that are inspired by the objects and elements in the room. This week I'm featuring a bright and clean-lined office. It might actually be the ideal office space that I would have in my own home someday. I'm excited for this new feature and I hope you all enjoy!

2. Morris Kitchen Bottled Apple Cider Syrup is handmade in small batches in Brooklyn, New York, and according to their recipes would make some great fall-flavored cocktails.
3. Obsessing over this Sights & Sounds Storyteller scarf from Madewell - it's whimsical yet classic.
4. Plaid shirts are pretty much a staple in my fall wardrobe - and I love this Perfect Shirt in Black Watch from J. Crew because you can wear it with black or navy.

One of my absolute favorite websites is The Everygirl. They post amazing features on living, health, finance, fashion, and career, and I find it all extremely relevant and inspiring. They were also named one of Forbes' Top 10 Sites for Millennial Women, and with good reason. Several times a week, they feature amazing women who have succeeded in different aspects of several industries. During interviews with these women, The Everygirl always asks, "What advice would you give your 23-year-old self?" This is one of my favorite parts of the columns because, being a 23-year-old, I find it inspiring to hear what wisdom these women would give to themselves when they were just starting out. I have compiled a few of my favorite answers to give a little inspiration, and who knows - maybe in 10 years I'll have the same things to say to my 23-year-old self.
